John Hardy, III
(1740 - c1810)



John Hardy was a planter and owned a large estate in Isle of Wright County. After his death his estate was disposed of and his children removed to the Carolinas and Georgia. This branch of the family were zealous supporters of the Baptist Church. On the road leading from Edgefield Court House to Hamburg, South Carolina, and located on the Hardy estate, is an ancient Baptist Church built by the Hardy brothers, which is known to this day as "Hardy's Church."

1773, 1st. marriage, Ann Williams, Lunenburg County, Virginia. *Source: H. Claude Hardy & Rev. E. Noah Hardy, date 1935. In 1788, 2nd marriage, to Widow Ingram, South Carolina. In 1799, after his death, S. C. Estate sold, and family moved to Georgia and then to Alabama. His Will was Probated in Edgefield Dist., S.C.

The Old Hardy Estate stands in Edgefield Dist., S.C. Six sons built large Baptist Church in S.C. The church was built on the Hardy Estate and stands today, the famous "Hardy's Church" on Old Hamburg Road.
