LETTER
I have a copy of this letter from Mattie L. Lewis, Aunt of Samuel Hinds Hardy and daugther of Samuel Henry Hardy, written to Sam and dated 3-14-1924. The copy is very poor as the letter is written in pencil and after so many years, it was difficult to get a good copy. With the help of a magnifying glass, I am transcribing this from the original.

Rev. H. H. Hardy & family
Dear Sam - no doubt you think that I have forgotten my promise, but no - I haven't been well at all since you were here - my Eyes bothering me considerably which cuts my letter writing short. I had almost despaired of finding these papers - but you know the darkest hour is just before dawn. It was all in me. I found them where I had searched diligently I thought but the secret was I didn't go down deep enough in the little nook of a Bureau drawer which I think is a good illustration of why so many people never enjoy the life of a Christian. Sam I have Fathers Church Letter from Ky . Also one from New Hope Church in Laclade Co which he organized in 1882. I have never written any one yet but I think I will soon - a short time ago I saw in the word & way of Mrs. H. Davis of Lebanon sending an offering to the Orphans Home for New Hope Church. She was a young member there when Grandpa labored there. In fact I think he Baptised her also her Husband. I hope to be able soon to do more writing. I want to hear from you more - Those letters also Ordination Paper too are very sacred to me Sam. I don't want them misplaced. I will tell you later more about them. Theran is at Virgils at Bristore Okla. Justin is at Springfield at the B. B. Tournament. Will back Sunday. We have been are are still having some real winter. Hope you found all well at Home.
Love to all
as ever old _______(unreadable word)
Mattie L. Lewis
(Father that she referred to in the letter was the Rev. Samuel Henry Hardy, a noted preacher both in Kentucky and then Missouri)
(The original letters and Certificate of Ordination that Mattie refers to in her letter above are now in the possession of Thomas Hinds Wilson, great great grandson of Samuel Henry Hardy. I have made copies for my file, but some did not come out well due to the age and the fact that at times pencil was used to write the letters. I have transcribed, from the original, all of the letters referred to above and included them under the information on Samuel Henry Hardy. I know that Mattie would be pleased that they have still been preserved into this 21st century.)
