Ruth Hersey graduated in the class of 1920 from Sarcoxie High School in Sarcoxie, Missouri. She then received certification and became an elementary school teacher.
Ruth Hersey and Logan Largen were married in the brides home in Ritchey, Missouri on March 27, 1921.
When they moved to Kansas City from Ritchey, Missouri in 1929, they joined the Bethany Baptist Church and were members there until January of 1988, where they became active members. Ruth was instrumental in developing and supervising the Cradle Roll Department at Bethany, a program that involved caring for infants and toddlers while their parents attended the regular worship service on Sunday morning. Ruth and the helpers involved with cradle Roll would visit the parents at home on a regular basis and it became an outreach for the church to the community.

Lorgan J Largen
1899 - 1988
Logan Largen was the youngest of eleven children born to Thomas and Amanda Largen of Newtonia, Missouri on March 12, 1899. He learned early in life (having lost both parents by death while he was still a very young boy) that life is sometimes made up of very difficult circumstances. But, during those difficult times, it seemed to be the springboard for helping to mold his character, it helped him to develop a good sense of humor and quick wit which lasted throughout his life, and perhaps most of all it gave him the desire to make it on his own.
Mr. Largen lived with one of his older brothers. When he was 19 years of age he served his country in World War I. He was with the 35th Division if France. Mr. Largen would proudly say: "It was the same division that Harry Truman was in."
When he returned home from his tour of duty, he met and married Ruth Hersey, from Ritchey, Missouri. This was on March 27, 1921.
When Mr. Largen moved to Kansas City from Ritchey, Missouri in 1929, they joined the Bethany Baptist Church and were members there until January of 1988.
He began his own construction business. He built several churches in the Kansas City area.
Mr. Largen also served on the Board of Directors for the Missouri Baptist Convention, as well as the Board for the Baptist Memorial Hospital.
He served faithfully as a deacon in the church, served on many committees, and was extremely faithful in his attendance at all of the church services. Mr. Largen was primarily responsible for beginning the senior adult program and dinner meeting. Perhaps one of the things that Mr. Largen enjoyed the most was his work as Director of the Adult 6 Department...
