SAMUEL D. HINDS,
b. December 29, 1825, Green Co., Kentucky;
d. June 20, 1910, Green Co., Kentucky;
m. (1) HARRIETT HANDY, September 05, 1848, Green Co., Kentucky; b. Abt. 1832, Green Co., Kentucky; d. Bet. 1850 - 1860;
m. (2) MARY C. MURRAY, August 02, 1853, Hart County, KY; b. April 13, 1831; d. October 20, 1894, Green Co., Kentucky.

1850 Green Co., KY census finds Samuel and Harriett living next door to Thomas Hines, along with the younger brothers and sisters of Samuel. Samuel married Harriet Handy, daughter of Caleb Handy in 1848. Harriet must have died between the birth of Amanda who is listed as her heir in Caleb's list of heirs and the 1860 census where we find Samuel with Mary C. (Murray). I am assuming that the other children listed in the 1860 census are children of Mary C. since none other than Amanda are listed as heirs of Caleb Handy--thus narrowing down the death date of Harriet to 1852 or 1853-1856. I do not find the marriage of Samuel and Mary C. in the available marriage publications.

The stones at the cemetery tell us his wife was Mary C., but I have not been able to find a marriage for Samuel and a Mary C. It must have taken place sometime between the 1852 and 1860 census where we find Mary C. age 32. What was the maiden name of Mary C. ?? I have the children sorted out by the list of heirs for Caleb Handy.

Per KY Green Connections, pg 127: The 1850 census list Samuel as age 24, living with a Harriett in his father's household. In 1860 and 1870 Samuel is living with Mary C. and presumably their children. The childre in these censuses were Amanda E. Hinds; Abner W. Hinds; James W. Hinds, Eli T. Hinds; and John D. Hinds.
